Location & Landscape
The camp is located in south-central Serengeti National Park, home to many species and different types of vegetation. The Serengeti’s landscape includes:
- Savannah: This is made up of grasslands, marshes, woodlands, and rocky kopjes.
- Seasonal Changes: In the dry season, waterholes dry up, and the grass turns yellow. Wildebeests begin their journey north, while Grant’s gazelles, warthogs, and ostriches stay behind to graze on the dry grasses.
Grass Types:
- Short Grass Plains: Found around Ngorongoro, stretching into the Serengeti.
- Intermediate Grass Plains: Located west and north of the short grass plains, forming a crest shape.
- Long Grass Plains: Found in the northern Serengeti and Seronera, where male lions hide and rest during the day.
- Woodlands and Forests: Woodlands are thinner than forests and can easily catch fire. Riverine forests are rare because the large rivers often dry up in the intense heat.
